In an epigastric hernia, fat pushes out through a defect in the abdominal wall and forms a lump. The common symptom is pain caused by the fat being pinched by the tight opening.
Operation:
The skin and layers are cut and separated to reveal the defect. The fat is removed and the defect closed. The wound is closed with absorbable sutures. The operation is done under general anesthesia and your child will need to be monitored in the ward.
Post-operative wound care:
Your child can have normal showers. It is important to excuse physical exercise and swimming for 4 weeks to allow the wound to have good healing and strength. Please contact us if there is wound swelling, redness or discharge.
